A collection of over 130 chemigrams, this work explores our connection with the environment throughout a time of loss and destruction of our ecosystems and lack of action toward preserving our precious land. Using both organic materials such as plant matter and parts of the body, this work is aimed to draw attention to the importance of creating a connection to our land during the Anthropocene. The chemigrams are made up of impressions from my own body and nature. By grouping them together we are able to experience the blurred lines of nature and humanity, questioning what each photograph is as you follow along through the space.
The alternative photographic process of creating a chemigram is a direct documentation process, where, as opposed to the traditional photograph, light plays a passive role. The subject leaves a direct impression on the paper, creating the link straight from process to presentation.
